Jan Schumacher

Jan Schumacher (*1980) received his initial musical education at the Limburger Domsingknaben and in the youth choir of state Rheinland-Pfalz. He studied music education and German language at Mainz, choral conducting with W. Schäfer in Frankfurt, and took courses with R. Sund, G. Grün, and S. Halsey.

After being lecturer at the music universities in Mainz and Freiburg, Jan is now head of the conducting department at the music university of church music in Rottenburg.

Since its foundation Jan has conducted the male chamber choir Camerata Musica Limburg, leading the ensemble to 1st prizes at the competitions in Tours (F), Maasmechelen (B), Bremen and at the 8th German Choir competition. Camerata Musica Limburg is invited to festivals in Germany in abroad and has recorded numerous CD- and broadcasting productions.

Jan works in all fields of choral music: from high level unaccompanied programs (including commissioned works written for him and his ensembles) to preparing choirs for Mahler´s 2nd (Simon Bolivar Orchestra) and 8th Symphony, Baroque opera or contemporary music to musicals by Loewe or operetta by Offenbach to choir theatre. As conductor of the university choir of TU in Darmstadt he performs the major choir symphonic repertoire as well as works for choir and big band or choir improvisations.

He served for choir- and conductors workshops all around Europe, Iceland, Turkey, Argentina (World Symposium on Choral Music), Venezuela and the USA (ACDA National Conference).

Jan is chair of the music commission and vice-president of the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat.
